Oud Manufacturing, Learning Courses, and Music Therapy
Program Summary
This project aims to establish a social responsibility initiative within a refugee camp that integrates musical craftsmanship, arts education, and music therapy. It seeks to empower children and youth both psychologically and professionally, while preserving cultural identity and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Rooted in the rich heritage of the oud — one of the most iconic instruments in Middle Eastern music — the program revives traditional craftsmanship while responding to the urgent social and emotional needs of refugee communities.
Program Vision
To empower the refugee community through music as a tool for learning, healing, and skill-building, while reviving oud-making as a sustainable cultural craft that preserves heritage and generates economic opportunity.
Program Objectives
- Provide specialized vocational training in oud manufacturing under the supervision of a professional expert, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and skill transfer.
- Offer structured oud music education programs that develop technical skills, creativity, and cultural appreciation among children and youth.
- Support children’s mental health and emotional resilience through integrated music therapy activities within the center’s programs.
- Create sustainable income and employment opportunities through the production, promotion, and marketing of handcrafted ouds.
Program Components
A) Oud Manufacturing Department
- Fully equipped workshop with tools and raw materials.
- Hands-on training programs (Beginner – Intermediate – Advanced).
- Production of educational and professional-quality ouds.
- Quality control and safety standards.
B) Music courses
- Age-appropriate curricula.
- Individual and group lessons.
- Small music ensembles and community performances.
- Introduction to music theory and rhythm.
C) Music Therapy Department
- Structured therapeutic music sessions for children.
- Integration with the center’s programs: Child Program, Kindergarten & Nursery, Arts Programs.
- Psychosocial support plans in cooperation with specialists.
